Village Family: The Underdog Innovators
We are not the biggest 501c3 nonprofit in Hampton Roads—but we are as a separate entity, among the boldest. Village Family began in 2014 with no building, no major funding, and no corporate backing. What we did have was passion, persistence, and a vision: to make sure no family in our community went hungry or felt forgotten.
As underdog innovators, we’ve grown from grassroots beginnings into a trusted hub where families find food, clothing, education, and empowerment. Our vision is simple yet powerful: to improve the quality of life for all who turn to us for help.
We go beyond hunger relief by partnering with schools, colleges, health providers, and local groups to deliver programs that promote:
-
Education & Literacy
-
Health & Nutrition
-
Youth & Elderly Support
-
Low-Income Assistance
-
Self-Sufficiency & Economic Development
As underdogs, we’ve learned to innovate. Where others see limits, we see possibilities. We built partnerships with local colleges, health providers, car clubs, and community groups. We created programs that deliver more than food: literacy workshops, hygiene care, youth empowerment, senior support, and financial education.
In 2019, we launched Event Parteez, a social enterprise designed to celebrate local talent, provide safe spaces for youth, and generate income to sustain our mission. It’s proof that when resources are scarce, creativity becomes our greatest strength.
Our community calls on us because we don’t wait for solutions to arrive, we build them ourselves. We are the underdog innovators, continuing what our ancestors started and proving that with courage, collaboration, and creativity, small organizations can create big change.
